About David Tollison, PhD

David Tollison, PhD is a clinical psychologist specializing in pain management at the Carolinas Center for Advanced Management of Pain, where he helps patients overcome the psychological side effects of living with pain. He is board certified by the American Board of Pain Management.  

Dr. Tollison earned his PhD in clinical psychology and biological psychology with an emphasis in psychopharmacology from the University of Georgia in Athens. He went on to complete his internship at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

With a career spanning nearly four decades, Dr. Tollison was the founder and director of the Greenville Hospital System Center for Health and Occupational Services as well as the director and president of Pain Therapy Centers, a hospital corporation that developed and managed nine hospital-based pain treatment programs in the eastern and midwestern United States.

An accomplished researcher and writer, Dr. Tollison is the author of over 30 scientific articles and 12 book chapters on pain diagnosis and treatment. He has also written or edited nine textbooks on pain diagnosis and treatment with translation into several foreign languages.

Dr. Tollison received the Presidents Award for clinical excellence in pain management on two occasions from the Southern Pain Society and also received the National Award in pain research and treatment from the American Academy of Pain Management. He sees patients at various Carolinas Center for Advanced Management of Pain locations throughout North and South Carolina.
